Many cities in the South Asian region have faced natural disasters which have caused loss of life and assets. Local governments have to play a crucial role in the management of disasters like floods, cyclones, earthquakes and fire.
UMC understands the need for local governments to be trained for management and organization of resources to face natural disasters and help lessen impact. Our core team has members who are skilled in training for disaster management and have also worked with local bodies in creating a communications strategy for their disaster management plans.
UMC prepared a comprehensive disaster preparedness manual for cities of Andhra Pradesh to guide them to prepare their own disaster management plan. We consulted cities from Florida, US that have had a long history of handling disasters and have systematized their management procedures. UMC also took guidance from ICMA’s National Emergency Management Network. The manual presents resource inventory templates and action plan templates for the response phase. It also contains assessment templates and explanatory notes for the recovery phase.
